Monsters! And things that go Boom!

ELA

We read a funny story called I Need my Monster. It is a humorous twist on a common bedtime fear: the monster under the bed. When Ethan's regular monster goes fishing, he interviews some replacement monsters so he can sleep at night. The monsters we meet are all unique and we read a lot of juicy descriptive words. No monster is quite scary enough for our boy. He was so relieved when his monster returned from his trip and he could finally get some rest!
We collected monster adjectives this week and will be writing our own under-the-bed monster stories next week. We practiced drawing monsters in different ways using some drawing sheets and art hub for kids. We drew our own monster for under the bed.

Here's another favourite bedtime story starring monsters that we read this week.

OG

This week we reviewed magic-e. We remembered from Gr. 1 and 2 that magic-e, sometimes called silent-e or bossy-e, makes a vowel say it's name (long sound). We were surprised to learn that that is only the first job of magic-e. Silent-e has 7 different jobs. We will learn about some of the other jobs this year.

Handwriting

We practiced handwriting p. It was a trickier one to form. After making the kite string, our pencil stroke has to go down under the line and then go all the way back to the top before curving in and out to form the front tail.

Math

Ordinal Numbers was our focus this week.

As well, we continued with number pattern practice and addition basic facts.

The mathletics passwords and log in info are now in the students' agendas in case they would like to practice at home.

Social Studies

This week we started studying the country India! We learned things are different in India, than in Canada. We are enjoying learning about how people in another country live, we loved watching a video that showed us how some people in India live and cannot wait to learn more.

Science

In science we started learning about hearing and sound. We read the book "Gerald McBoing Boing" by Dr. Seuss. We learned about sound words like BOOM and POW and that they are called onomatopoeia. We even started writing a story using these words!

Art

In art this week we had Ms.Coleman come in and help us do our Christmas Cards. It was so much fun and they came out looking AMAZING!
