October Week 3

ELA

I am Thankful for

We spent some time this week writing about things we were thankful for at home, school, outside, and talents we have. We learned how to make a paper bag book. They are heart warming and oh so cute!

Orton-Gillingham

This week we learned about Open and Closed Syllables. We made little doors, that open and close, in our phonics notebook to help us remember the difference.

Kite Strings

We practiced handwriting letters i, u, w, and t.

At School with Humphrey

We finished reading our first class novel. We loved hearing about Humphrey's adventures each day, his friendship with Og the frog, and how he helped the kids in Room 26 learn to work together. The kids in 3A think it would be pretty great if we had a class pet!

Math

We played 9s Bingo this week to practice adding 9s facts.

We are almost finished Lesson 6, Number Patterns and Rules. Students are putting all their pattern knowledge to work in this lesson:  finding the gap and continuing the pattern as well as identifying what is being added or subtracted in a pattern and using that rule to continue the pattern.

Mathletics

Students all received mathletics accounts. This is online math practice aligned with the Alberta program of studies. It was generously provided to RBES students by our school's Parent council. THANK YOU! We will be using mathletics each week to supplement our lessons.

Science

This week in science we wrapped up our rocks and minerals unit with our quiz on Friday. The students all rocked their quiz. Our next unit is "Hearing and Sound", which the students are excited to begin.

Social Studies

This week we learned about continents and oceans. The students were really interested to learn the differences between a continent and a country. We also learned about the 4 main oceans and where they are located.
