Wednesday: Library
Friday: Book Orders due
ELA: Students will notice a change in the structure of our language time. We will begin our Daily 5 rotations. This means students will be rotating through centers where they will Read to Self, Work on Writing, do Word Word, Listen to Reading, or do Guided Reading with the Teacher. This will allow me to provide a more individualized program for your child. Students gain independence and autonomy over their own learning, as well as benefit from small group instruction. This will also help with assuring the Home Reading books are Just Right books for your child. Thank you for taking the time to read with your child at home. It really does make a difference.
Math: We are working on Numbers 1 to 20. We are doing a combination of math centers and whole group activities on different concepts, including estimating, more and less than, and problem solving. We will first look at the strategy of 'counting on'. This strategy is to assist students in counting more efficiently. For example, if they have 8 counters and I give them some more. To find out how many, students can 'Count On' from 8, instead of counting them all from 1. You can help your child gain number sense by counting things at home. Count forwards and backwards to 20. Count by 2s, 5s, and 10s. Students love to count!
Science: Continuing to explore our senses, specifically Touch and Taste.
Social: We are discussing Groups and Belonging. A few students still have to share their group item/picture. We will be doing a special design project for our class. (We all belong to the group 1K!). Details coming soon!
Art: Students learned about perspective as they painted a field of poppies for Remembrance Day. They painted the poppies in the foreground 'big' and poppies in the background 'small'.
