In the Classroom:

ELA: We are excited to begin our new Grade One Reading program. Each group will be focusing on a very specific reading skill. This is in addition to the reading activities we do during our regular ELA learning blocks. In class, we are continuing using the Daily 5 format for language learning. Home Reading begins this week. Your child will bring home a book each night that needs to be read and returned to school. There will be a Reading Log sheet for each month. This paper can be kept in the book bag with the books so I can see that your child is reading every night. Please ensure your child brings the red book bag to school every day! Most already are, so Thank You!

Math: We are starting a Patterns unit. Students will create, copy, describe, and extend repeating patterns. Students will translate patterns from one representation to another. We are continuing working with numbers every morning as part of our Rise and Shine/Calendar activities.

Science: On Friday, we started our Senses unit by doing an experiment. Students first used their sense of hearing to figure out a surprise. They heard several sounds before using their sense of smell, then sight, and finally, touch and taste. It was popcorn!

This week we will do more experiments using our senses. First up is our sense of touch!

Social: Learning more about our School through a project based on the book Knuffle Bunny.
