In the Classroom

ELA

Fairytales! One of my favourite units, we explore traditional fairytales and also compare them to 'fractured' fairytales (twists on the old ones). We will look at story elements and the special features found in fairytales. Besides reading and writing activities, we will also do art and building projects for each of the fairytales we study in depth.

In addition to our fairytale theme unit, students will also continue with the Daily 5. Students are becoming independent writers! It is so awesome to see!  We are also participating in a reading challenge for May. So far we have collectively read 74 books! Wow! Thank you so much for keeping up with the Home Reading.

Math

We finished our Measuring Unit by exploring Mass and Capacity. We will be doing a variety of activities to learn and practice addition and subtraction up to 20 from now until the end of the year. We will also explore 2D and 3D shapes along with our building unit.

Capacity Carnival. It got a little wet! :)

It was so fun to compare mass
by finding out which items were 'heavier/lighter'.

Science

Building Things!

Social

We are studying different types of communities. We explored and compared rural/suburban/urban communities. We are learning more about different communities by studying some real communities that are nearby. We have pen pals that live in the big city of Calgary!
