In the Classroom
ELA
We are continuing review of letter sounds. Students are bringing home their Animated Literacy Letters as we learn them. They also bring home their word sorts. These are great quick way to practice beginning sounds at home! This week I will be assessing the students for reading. We practice Read to Self every day. We are building our stamina. So far we can read for 6 mins and 30secs!
Math
This week we will continue to review Numbers to 10. We are participating in math centres, using 10-frames to count, playing Shake and Spill, and Counting Fish on abcya.com. Students can play this at home to practice counting.
Science
We are studying the season of Fall. We will discuss things we see, what we wear, what animals do in autumn, and learn a bit about migration and Canada Geese. Monday is our Fall Walk. We will be looking for signs of Autumn.
Social
We are getting to know our classmates through our Special Student activities. We will continue until all students have shared.
We are getting familiar with our class and school expectations. Mrs. Kloschinsky read us a book in Assembly called, There's a Volcano in my Mouth. We are working on remembering to raise our hands before speaking out. In class we read a book called, Howard B Wigglebottom Learns to Listen. We made Listening Ears to help remind us of the importance of good listening. We learned we can listen with our whole body!
Art
We are working on Self-Portraits. Look for them hanging in the hall by the end of the week!
PE
In gym we are practicing moving in space in different ways. We are become more aware of our body in space. We are practicing stopping on cue. We do all kinds of games and activities to practice Locomotor skills. Some fun games we have played include Silly Banana tag and Shark Attack.
