In the Classroom:
ELA: We are practicing the elements of the Daily 5: Read to Self, Word Work, and Work on Writing. Students were pretty excited about getting a writing journal where they can write whatever they want! We are also practicing writing using our Rainbow Words. This week we will write, 'I can...' statements. Students are in for a surprise this week, we have 2 Mystery Readers coming in! Thank you to the parents who have volunteered to do this! If you, or someone you know, would like to come in, pick a day! We are very flexible, love being read to, and love surprises! :)
Math: Students created a number line that shows numbers being represented in many ways. They did a great job! It's hanging in our classroom. This week we dive right into our new Patterning unit. Students will be identifying, creating, and continuing patterns.
Science: Last week, we launched our new science unit with a POP! Popcorn, that is. Students had to use their 5 senses to figure out what was behind my box. At first they heard some tinkling noises, and then a loud noise like a "vacuum". Soon they heard popping and smelled the popcorn. They knew what it was for certain when a popcorn popped right out of the box! After we used our sense of touch and taste as we sampled the yummy popcorn. We will continue using our observation skills for the next few weeks in science as we explore each of the 5 senses.
Social: We are studying Belonging. Students will be sharing their items over the next week or two.
Art: We are painting pumpkins this week. :)
