math, seed exploration, magnetic poetry

We started our Measurement unit by learning about words used to compare size. For example: long, longer, longest and short, shorter, shortest. We made worms and ordered them according to length.

In science, we completed our seed investigation. We compared a dry seed to a wet seed and even had a look inside! We all learned something very interesting... a seed has a noticeable mark on the outside where the seed was connected to the plant. The scientific name is micropyle. We thought it sounded very similar to our belly button! :)
Here are the Little Greenhouses we made to observe the seed growing into a plant! We remembered plants need 4 things to grow. We made sure to plant the seed in soil (the cotton ball), gave it water, left it open so it could get air (carbon dioxide), and hung our greenhouses in the sun. We will let you know when our seed sprouts (begins to grow)!
We tried a new activity today at our writing centre: magnetic poetry!
And here is a peek at the rest of our regular Daily 5: Listening to Reading, Word Work, Read to Someone, and Read to Self.
