It's June! The school year is quickly winding to a close. My apologies, there will be a delay in posting pictures to the blog this week. I am having technical difficulties as the 3000 pictures I took this year has finally frozen my gallery. It is so full of our learning adventures!
Monday: Permission for Swimming is online. Please fill out asap. Thank you!
Tuesday: We are painting in Art today. Dress accordingly.
Wednesday: Yoga, Early Dismissal 2:15pm
Thursday: District Track Meet at RMS, several 1K students will be attending! :)
Friday: Return ALL Library books to the school.
In the Classroom:
ELA: We are working on two Fairytale presentations. One is a Puppet show using the art of Oral Storytelling. Students are doing a retelling of a classic fairytale based on pictures. The second is a Readers Theatre production. Students are reading from a script, practicing expression, and will be presenting their classic fairytale in theatre style. The scripts were sent home so students can practice their lines at home. It is not necessary to memorize the lines, but should be able to read them fluently. Some students have expressed an interest in having a costume for the presentation. Nothing fancy is necessary but if there is something around the house that would work for their character, that would be fine!
We have been doing word sorts with blends during our Daily 5 time. Students are bringing these home once we are done with them at school. Ask your child to show you how the sort works. :)
Students are working on their own version of 'Harold and the Purple Crayon' during Writing time. They are using their imagination to turn different shaped lines into scenes from their story. Every story will be a different adventure! I can't wait to read them when they are finished!
Math: We are studying 2D shapes and 3D objects. Students worked on different activities during math centres that had them building with shapes, drawing, exploring, matching, and creating with shapes. We completed a shapes booklet. We will continue with shapes this week before returning to addition and subtraction for the remainder of the year.
Science: We enjoyed building our 3D zoo animals and zoo enclosures during our in-class fieldtrip. Students were required to build their zoo enclosure with a fence, a gate that could lock, a shelter, a bed, food and water, a toy, trees, and any other ideas the students had. The student had to use 'money' to buy materials for building - they only had $20 to spend so they had to think carefully. It was an excellent lesson in design, construction, and economy. The students were very creative and had lots of fun! Thanks again to our wonderful volunteers!
Social: We will return to our Social Studies lessons this week, studying rural vs urban communities and looking at communities around Alberta.
