This Week:
Monday: Cross Country practice at lunch
Tuesday: Library
Wednesday: Cross Country Practice at lunch
Thursday: Meet the RBES Staff 5-7pm
Friday: No School, PD Day
In the Classroom:
ELA: Continuing Special Student activities, students are enjoying sharing their 'Me Bags' as we review letters and sounds, recognize words, and learn to read and write names, number and color words. We also started a printing review. Students are remembering to start names with a capital. The other letters are lower case. We talked about how lower case letters may be 'giraffes' or 'turtles'. We have some very neat printers in 1B! I introduced a phonics learning site called Starfall. Students were excited they can visit this site at home! On the right there are links to all kinds of fun educational websites. Another site we visited this week is Tumblebooks.
Math: We started our Numbers to 20 unit by counting fish, making fish bowls, and counting objects in mystery bags. We practiced writing numbers in two ways: as a numeral and as a word.
Next week we will do more hands-on activities to help us learn about numbers. We may also have a surprise visitor that will help teach us about a special group of numbers! Stay tuned!
Science: We are starting a Seasonal Change unit in science. We are planning a Fall Walk! Look for a note about this field trip coming home Monday.
Social: We are continuing to share about ourselves and learn about classmates through our Me bag project. We also made adorable Self Portraits in Art class!
PE: We are enjoying daily PE with our buddy gym class, 1A. This month we are playing cooperative games. So far we've played 'Ship, Shark, Shore', Freeze tag, British Bulldog, and Doctor Dodgeball. We are also learning the importance of a good warmup, stretch, and cool down.
Music: Students also had their first music class with Mrs. Stanski. Check out the music blog here: http://rbesmusic.blogspot.ca/
