In the Classroom:

ELA: Students enjoy interviewing their classmates for our Grade One Friends book. After recording all of the information about each student, we practice reading the sentences we wrote. Students are able to read many words. For example: He, She, His, Her, likes, favourite, as well as many colour and number words. This week we are continuing with phonics and printing activities,  and will begin working on stamina during Read to Self time. We will also do writing based on the book, Fletcher and the Falling Leaves

Math: We are at the end of the first section of our Numbers unit. We looked at number arrangements, played Mirror, and practiced representing numbers using 10-Frames. This week, we will make a Numbers book and finish our class Number Line poster.

Science: Students enjoyed learning about Canadian Geese last week, including watching a hilarious video on migration. We also talked about Fall weather, signs of Fall, and favourite Autumn activities. Students love to collect leaves and play outside on beautiful Fall days. We are excited for our Fall Walk on Monday!

Art: Students did Part one of an art project based on the book, Fletcher and the Falling Leaves. It took several steps and students had to be very good listeners. They did great! This week we will do Part two of this project. We are painting with watercolours. Please send in a paint shirt and/or wear old clothes on Tuesday. Can't wait to see the finished project!

Terry Fox: It was a great day for a walk in honour of Terry Fox. Thanks so much to all our volunteers, the Devon Lions Club, and Cst. Durling for helping make this event safe and successful!
We walked for a full hour! Terry would be very proud! Way to go Grade Ones!

Finally, a Big Thank you to Mrs. Forchuk for volunteering to help us sign out Library books and for helping us with Art. And Thank you to Mrs. Down for volunteering to help us with Math and Social last week!
