In the Classroom:

ELA:  Students will be introduced to 5 new red words this week. Awesome job so far on the Home Reading! I read with every student this week and all of them were able to confidently read their book! Great job Grade Ones! And thank you for the support parents!

Below the students are engaged in one of the word work activities. It is a game called Spidertrap (similar to Hangman). It's a fun game and could be played at home as a way to practice spelling the sight words.

This week in ELA, we will be doing a book study. Students will sequence, learn about story elements, illustrate a retell, and perform a reader's theatre version on the book: Big Pumpkin. Its is my favourite Halloween story with a great moral!

Math: We are nearing the end of our Pattern unit. Students have created all kinds of patterns. This week we will be Translating Patterns (showing a pattern in a different way).

We are continuing with our Numbers to 100 unit with our visits from Zero the Hero. He brought a special treat on the 30th day. We counted and grouped 30 Fruit Loops! Students are practicing counting in different ways. We are very good at counting by 1s and 10s. We practiced counting by 5s.

Science: We explored our sense of smell this week by doing an experiment. This week we will study our sense of hearing and sense of taste. Our unit finale will be on Halloween! Let me know if you'd like to volunteer for  this event!

Social: We finished our Knuffle Bunny books and study of our school. Students will bring them home this week!

Finally, we created some funky wood pumpkins in Art. Check them out! The group shots were their idea. Not sure which is more adorable here. :)
