ELA

Last week, we filled out a job application and wrote about why we would make a good elf. Students were also introduced to Silly Elf Sentences. This week, we will continue learning how to write interesting sentences that include a who, what, and where.

Students have been practicing their orange words and I have assessed all on their knowledge of these words. Students will get 5 yellow words this week and we will continue practicing all of the Rainbow words. Students were introduced to a game on the chromebooks called Mousetrap. It can be accessed by following the Spelling City link (on the right) if they want to practice at home. Students can choose a word list to practice. There are many other games to choose from too!

We are continuing with Guided Reading groups, Phonemic Awareness, and the Daily 5.

Math

Students have been working hard on Number activities including recognizing and representing numbers to 20, Before and After, Greater than/Less than/Equal to... We are also practicing skip counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s. This week we will have another visit by Zero the Hero as we learn to count up to 70!

Social

This week we boarded The Polar Express and began an exciting journey around the world to discover how other countries celebrate Christmas. Our first stops were Canada, USA-Hawaii, and Mexico. Students are completing a scrapbook/passport as we read, write, and learn about Traditions. Each country has a craft for us to do too!

We made flower leis in Hawaii and danced to a famous Hawaiian Christmas song.

In Mexico, we heard the story of the Poinsettia and painted a beautiful picture using a sponge.
