In the Classroom

ELA/Science

Continuing our Fairytale theme, we read Rapunzel and Cinderella. We are working on a Fairytale Journal, listening to Twisted Fairytales during Daily 5, and wrote about what we we do if we found a magic wand. We made pinwheels and of course lots of castles. This week we will be building our cardboard castles. Thank you to everyone who have sent in boxes and paper rolls! We will collect until Wednesday and will be creating on Thursday and Friday. :)

Pinwheels!
Castles: They took a lot of teamwork!
It was great to see the class work together so creatively this week.
More Castles!
And more Castles! We drew these ones and used watercolour paints for colour.
They turned out beautifully!

We had our last reading group. Monday we will begin our final reading assessments. Students will continue with Guided Reading during Daily 5. Home Reading will continue for most of June.
We have completed our Rainbow word program. I am doing the final assessments on those sight words. There are 100 words in all. Students who do not know all their sight words should continue practicing at home until they are mastered.

Math

Students are doing great work with Addition and Subtraction to 20. We are learning many strategies to help us with the equations. Once introduced to the strategies students can use the one that best works for them. Strategies we have learned so far include: number lines, drawing a picture, counters, fingers, 10-frames, counting on, and mental math.

Social

Our pen pals wrote back! We will be writing back to them this week.
