ELA

5 new green words. Try this activity at home to practice writing the Rainbow Words!

Our focus in January is Writing. Students will be making Writing folders this week to use during the Daily 5 'Work on Writing' centre. Students are learning to write a complete sentence. We are learning to self-check our sentences for: capitals, periods, finger spaces, and spelling. Invented spelling is encouraged as students learn to sound out words. Students are expected to spell the sight words correctly.

This week we wrote a New Year's goal and wrote a silly New Year's resolution as a class poem. We continued with writing practice in our Wonder Journals. This weeks wonder was about the Countdown ball in Times Square.

We made Scratch Art paper and drew a celebration scene.

Here are our New Years goals. We learned how to join two ideas together with the word 'and'.

This week in ELA we will continue with reading and writing practice with the theme of Winter and Snowmen. :)

Math

We enjoyed playing 'I have, Who has" this week while practice number recognition. We used the chromebooks to practice our math skills using the Mathletics program. We will continue with our study of numbers this week as well as introduce Adding.

Science

Seasonal Change Winter is our focus.

Social

We discussed Citizenship. Students demonstrated ways we can show respect, cooperate, and be responsible.
