And that's a wrap, November!

Christmas Elves

Thank you so much for your generosity in sending in food and toy donations this week. We are looking forward to delivering the items to the depot next week.

The theme of generosity will continue for the month of December. We have some festive activities planned to help us spread joy this season.

ELA

This week we finished up our Family paragraphs and drawings.

Some students also chose to write Christmas cards to send to soldiers overseas. Their heartwarming messages will be sure to brighten the day of those in service who will not be home for the holidays.

OG

Students were introduced to a new spelling/phonics rule: The Soldier Rule. The soldier letters (c,t,d) protect the short vowel in words with the spellings ck, tch, or dge at the end of the word (long spelling right after short vowel). Examples: duck, catch, dodge.

Guided Reading

This is my favourite part of our week! Each of the reading groups are reading a chapter book with me. Some groups are working on reading accurately and fluently, while others are focusing on reading expression. We have discussions about story elements, and use reading strategies such as connecting to the text, vocabulary, and making predictions to help build important reading comprehension skills. Here are some of the books we've read so far:

Math

Students are showing a solid understanding of Place Value so far. We will have a quiz on Lessons 1-6 next week. Here we are playing Place Value war with a partner.

We also started reviewing subtraction facts. We practice by solving equations on paper, using mathletics and xtra math on the chromebooks, and by playing games. Here we are playing a game called Race to Zero:

Science

We have been working on learning the difference between how animals and humans learn. We also learned about amplifying and sound proofing.

Social Studies

In social studies we have been working on our posters about India. We also learned about needs and wants. We also were able to see special things from India.
