The coldest week

What do you do when it's minus 50 and half the class is at home?
You might be teacher for the day,  make bracelets, play uno, build lego, read, do math, play hide and seek in the whole school...it was an interesting week! We did have a couple 'snow days' but also had time for reading and math assessments and some regular class activities as well.

We learned more about our Star Student. Manya shared a mini keyboard and let us have a turn.

In ELA, each guided reading group read a leveled reader entitled Dogs at Work. We chose 2 of the dogs we read about to compare and contrast using a venn diagram. We will continue next week with reading exercises based on this book. Students also learned about dogs who are working to help rescue koala bears affected by the fires in Australia. We watched a video on this current event, explored related vocabulary words, and used those words in a journal response discussing the issue and what we can do to help.

Next week, students will be participating in a cross-curricular project. More info to come soon!

Math

Students practiced 2 and 3 digit addition and subtraction without regrouping.

Social Studies

This week in social stories we learned about communities in Tunisia. Students learned Tunisia has an elected president ! They also learned about how much the people in their communities work together.

Genius Hour

This week students began working on their genius hour research. Students picked a topic of their choice; we have everything from Marvel to octopi. They are very excited to learn and share!
