Baking for Australia

We can't thank the grade 3 families enough for their support of the bake sale. The students did a great job setting up shop and enjoyed having baked goods for a special treat this week. It would be understated to say the bake sale was a success. We don't have the exact final number yet, but can say the efforts raised a significant donation for the animals affected by the Australian wildfire. Global Citizenship is a focus of our social studies curriculum. The grade 3's proved we can make a positive impact in our world by doing simple actions locally. Thanks so much to all the RBES students and staff who bought our baking!

ELA

Our guided reading groups did a study on quotation marks using dialogue from our fictional story Cy and Medusa.
The story had characters based off of greek mythology. Students were able to identify all of the story elements: characters. setting, problem, and solution as we discussed what we read. We studied reading comprehension questions and worked together to find 'the best answer'. Our small group time is our favorite time together as our classmates work independently on journal writing, reading, and word study activities.

OG: Triple blends

We practiced reading words starting with 3 consonants: str, spr, spl, etc. We did various activities to reinforce this spelling concept: highlighting blends, a phoneme to grapheme exercise (hearing the sound and writing it down), and a word search activity.

Handwriting

Hills and Valleys is our last group of letters we are learning to write in cursive. We practiced the letter n this week.

Star Student

Our VIP this week knows more about hockey than anyone we know! Cruise shared his hockey card collection with us.

Math

We completed our lessons on 3 digit addition. 3A are regrouping rockstars!

We have also been practicing our subtraction basic facts. This will help us in our next group of lessons, subtracting 3 digit numbers.

Subtracting 9s game

Social Studies

This week in Social Studies we continued learning about Tunisia. We were learning about schools in Tunisia. Students were surprised to hear that all schools including books and uniforms are free in Tunisia!

Science

Students completed their Australia project this week and will be presenting them to the class next week. They are very excited to share all that they've learned!

We also had our coding in-school field trip.  The students had a blast. Thanks so much to our volunteers who made this fieldtrip possible!
